Zack is still in the hospital...His blood counts went up slightly yesterday but today's counts don't show any increase. I planned to take him outside in a wheelchair yesterday - to get some sunshine and fresh air - but his doctors won't allow him to leave his room until his counts are healthier. His temperature is still high, reaching 103 again today.

Last night Zack wasn't getting enough oxygen in his bloodstream and had to be hooked up to oxygen and monitored all night...A late night x-ray of his lungs showed no problems and he was unhooked from oxygen at 8am.

Zack just received his last dose of chemotherapy in the "Delayed Intensification" phase, which means he's officially done with the most difficult stages of treatment. He also gained a bit of weight and is 80 lbs for the first time in many weeks, probably due in part to large amounts of intravenous fluids.

I hope you have good ac in there, as it has been way to hot out here in the not-hospital world! Zack's body is reacting with an understandable protest to all the poking and prodding he has had to undergo. He has such a strong will! (like his mom!) This is a good time for both of you to pull back in a little and rest up for the good times up ahead. Hugs, Donnea

Hi Zack!! We hope today is a good day for you. We're hanging inside today because it's supposed to get pretty hot out. Rafa, Sofia and Javi are watching a music show right now...they're also spilling little drops of water on their table and cleaning them up. (The things they do for fun!!) Get better and give youself and your mom a BIG hug from all of us here! We love you and miss you.

Hello Zack....OK..time to go home. They need your bed for someone else...so keep working hard at getting out of there...I hear the food is much better at home!...

Michael and I are in Carmel. Not sign of smoke from the big fires in Big Sur...thank goodness. We were vary worried as our little house is wood and there are lots of trees near us.

We hope you are home soon. Love, Michael and Luanne Lotito

Hi Zack and Maria-I think of you both often...I just went to Yellowstone National Park and saw the strangest, most beautiful animals:bison, antelope, grizzly bears(I stayed in the car!!) and seagulls (I had no idea there were seagulls in Wyoming!). Sounds like your 6th grade camping trip was fun..sorry it has to be followed by hospitals and chemo...hopefully you will be out on the trail again in the Fall. Get well soon. Coach beatrice
